Files you choose are read and processed only by code running in your browser tab. Their contents, names and any password you type are never uploaded to BrowserFiles or anyone else. There is no account, no upload queue and no server copy.

We count page views and tool events with a self-hosted instance of Umami, which does not set cookies and does not build a profile of you. A page view records the page address, referring site, browser, operating system, device type, screen size, language and an approximate country derived from the connection. Your IP address is not stored.

Tool events carry only counts and choices: how many files, a size band (under 5 MB, under 20 MB, or larger), page counts, the output format or preset picked, how long the work took, and whether it finished, failed (with a coarse reason) or was cancelled. They never carry file names, file contents or passwords. The complete list of events:

When something breaks, an error report goes to our GlitchTip error tracker: the error message and stack trace, the page address, the browser and operating system, and the release. Before a report leaves your browser, a scrubber removes URL query strings, credentials in web addresses, and anything shaped like a password, token, secret, key or cookie. A small sample of page timing traces is scrubbed the same way. Reports never include your files.

Like any website, our hosting provider and our own monitoring record each request to our server: the time, the page or asset requested, the response, and your IP address and browser details. These logs are used to keep the site running and secure, and are kept only for a limited period. Your files are never part of a request.

• History: the names and result details (size, dimensions or page count) of your last 20 results, for up to 30 days. Never the files themselves. Clear it with History → Clear local history on any tool.
• Preferences: your colour theme, compression settings and dismissed notices.
• Tool handoffs: when you send a result to another tool, it can be held in this tab's storage so that Back returns it. It is removed when you return or clear it. If you close the tab instead, it stays in this browser until you next open BrowserFiles, which removes it.
• Offline copy: the tool pages and their code are cached so tools work offline. This cache holds no files of yours.

This storage is strictly necessary for the features you use, and never leaves your device. To remove all of it, clear this site's data in your browser settings (site data, cookies and cache for this site).

BrowserFiles shows no advertising today and sets no advertising or tracking cookies, so there is no cookie banner. If advertising is introduced, this notice will be updated first and you will be asked for consent where the law requires it.

We rely on legitimate interests to count usage, fix errors and keep the service secure. Under UK GDPR you can ask to access, correct or erase personal data we hold, object to or restrict its use, and ask for a copy. Because we do not know who you are, we may need details such as the time of a visit to find anything. Write to hello@browserfiles.com.
